The project is of vital importance in that it affords the Indian community to give expression to their active role in the struggle thereby sharing in the rich and diversified history of which it is a part. The study would, it is hoped, fill many gaps in recorded history and focus on the role of a small yet vibrant community. The recordings tell the stories of many unsung heroes and their efforts during the struggle and hence the need for it to become part of recorded history.
Many prominent people have been interviewed thus far amongst them being Ela Gandhi (grand-daughter of Mahatma Gandhi), Billy Nair (Natal Indian Congress), George Sewpersadh (Natal Indian Congress), Mewa Ramgobin, Sunny Venketrathnam, Navaneetham Pillay - to mention just a few. Those interviewed include political exiles, community leaders, lawyers, doctors, artists, academics and even the lay person. It is hoped that the listener would have a rich and rewarding experience. |
