Sewsunker "Papwa" Sewgolum is the "legend of Indian golfing history". He won the Dutch Open in 1959, in 1960 and again in 1964. He travelled and competed extensively abroad but in South Africa he was only allowed to compete with non-whites, due to apartheid restrictions. He was the winner of a number of non-white golfing championships. In 1965 he made history when he became the first non-white to compete in a white tournament in South Africa. He beat Gary Player into second place. |
